Wonder: Finding Magic in the Mundane

Being born at all is perhaps the greatest fortune, and the most primordial way of meeting it is to look at the world with the eyes of wonder: a wholehearted embrace of the unknown and mysterious, a fascination at the complexity of our erratic world, and the birthplace of our inquiry into it. Yet, life, as it unfolds, has a way of dulling this enchantment. By means of monotonous structures, recursive patterns and habits engendered by society, we tend to hanker after worldly gains so as to fill the self-inflicted void born out of the loss of wonder in our lives.

'Finding Magic in the Mundane' embodies the act of reclaiming our faculty for wonder, not by dismissing the structures and habits of society, but by reawakening the child within. The recent generations use a saying that most of the older ones second: "You only live once." And if that is true, this unique experience called 'life' must not be left by the paucity of magic. Ergo, the renaissance of the inner child signifies giving to the world, and to oneself, the pure gift of attention, which aids the revelation of the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary.

This leads us to embrace the sheer serendipity of being alive 'here and now', instead of lamenting past grief or chasing future glory, which is the greatest expression of love for life. Every sunrise and sunset, every chirping bird, every good friend and every personal failure that we pass off as commonplace, are all manifestations of marvel in disguise; and if we give them all a second chance, perhaps this time through a heart brimming with wonder, we might just be able to unveil the cloak and find the magic in the mundane!
